RELIVE THE 2021 SEASON: ROUND 2
From Thruxton, the series headed to Snetterton for round two – with fans allowed to return to watch the BTCC trackside for the first time since the 2019 season finale, albeit in limited number.
Qualifying saw Colin Turkington grab pole in a top ten shootout after Gordon Shedden was excluded, but the drivers who had led the way coming into the weekend – Jake Hill and Josh Cook – would struggle with the extra weight they were forced to carry, with Ash Sutton also below par after issues on his Laser Tools Racing Infiniti.
Race 1:
Turkington converted pole into victory in race one in a lights-to-flag performance, holding off the early challenge of Tom Ingram to secure victory.
Ingram would be left to settle for second spot ahead of Rory Butcher, whilst further back, Shedden came from the back of the grid after his qualifying exclusion to take 15th and score a point.
Race 2:
From eleventh on the grid, Sutton stormed through the pack in fine style to win race two of the weekend, grabbing the lead from Turkington mid-way through before controlling things from the front.
Turkington would take second with Ollie Jackson rounding out the podium after a strong start was followed by an impressive defensive drive to keep the chasing pack at bay.
Race 3:
Race three delivered a historic first win for EXCELR8 and Hyundai thanks to Ingram as he took victory on home soil for the team ahead of Sutton and Shedden – who completed his run through the field to the podium.
Further down the order, Jade Edwards grabbed her first points finish in the series, with the weekend ending with Sutton grabbing the point lead.
